Driving down the winding gravel road, with nothing but a few houses, fields and farmlands, I had wondered if we were in the correct place.
We were on our way to a lake resort, and our sat nav informed us that we would be there within 500m. This was the case, and we arrived to a gated resort to our right.
Lake Shkodra resort is a huge site, with several accommodation options, from pitches for tents and motorhomes, to tipis and treehouses.
It has been a long time goal of mine to sleep in a treehouse. There is something about it that evokes a sense of imagination and ultimate adventure.
After checking in, we went to check out our new home for a few days.
Climbing the stairs to the wooden hut, we were treated to a view of the lake, and it was stunning. Outside was a small wooden table for dining, whilst underneath was a lighter chair and hammock. Inside the treehouse was a large double bed with a light duvet and blanket, 2 chairs and bedside cabinets, with lights and 1 electric point for charging electronics.
There was a fan at the corner of the room, but it didn’t feel quite hot enough to use it.
I sensed that we were going to have an adventurous but relaxing stay.
It turned out that adventurous certainly was the case, with the first night experiencing monsoon style rain and a thunderstorm.
As a result with lower temperatures, meant the tree house was actually quite cold inside. In fact it felt warmer outside than inside.
That said, the lake resort and tree house was incredible, and we had a great stay, with thoughts to returning in better weather to make use of facilitities.
Location
Lake Shkoder is a lake that spans across two countries; Albania and Montenegro. Lake Shkodra resort is situated between the towns of Koplik and Shkoder.
Cost
30 euro per night for a tree house
Facilities
There is on on site Cafe at the resort open from the morning to the evening and serves everything from breakfast to dinner, hot and cold drinks.
I tried some traditional Albanian food of sausage, rice and salad.
WiFi – we found that this only worked in the cafe area the best. It worked a little in our tree house, but the signal was weak and it disconnected frequently.
Toilets/Showers – There is a large block of clean toilets and showers on site, which were cleaned frequently. The water pressure was good, and showers were hot.
At the entrance there is a large reception area with maps and guide books, as well as postcards and some small souvenirs to purchase.
The staff are also able to provide stamps and post postcards on your behalf.
Water activities – including kayaking and stand up paddle boarding are available on the Lake.
